Peer Review Process

Journal of Schooling and Pesantren Studies (JSPS) implements a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review Process to ensure the quality, originality, academic integrity, and scholarly contribution of all published manuscripts. In this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review stages to maintain fairness, objectivity, and academic professionalism.

Every submitted manuscript is evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript topic. The journal is committed to maintaining international standards of scholarly review, publication ethics, and academic integrity throughout the editorial process.

1. Preliminary Editorial Assessment

All submitted manuscripts are initially evaluated by the editorial team to ensure conformity with the journal’s aims and scope, ethical standards, author guidelines, and academic requirements. Manuscripts must demonstrate originality, scholarly relevance, methodological rigor, and significant contribution to the fields of schooling studies, pesantren studies, Islamic education, and contemporary educational discourse.

At this stage, manuscripts also undergo plagiarism screening using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts containing excessive similarity, unethical publication practices, or formatting inconsistencies may be rejected or returned to authors for revision before entering the peer review process.

2. Reviewer Selection

The editorial board appoints at least two expert reviewers with academic competence and research experience relevant to the manuscript topic. JSPS strictly applies a Double-Blind Peer Review Process, ensuring that reviewer and author identities remain anonymous throughout the evaluation.

Reviewers are selected based on academic qualifications, research expertise, publication record, and absence of conflicts of interest. Whenever possible, reviewers are appointed from institutions different from those of the authors to preserve impartiality and academic integrity.

3. Double-Blind Peer Review Evaluation

Each manuscript is critically evaluated based on originality, theoretical contribution, methodological validity, analytical depth, clarity of argumentation, relevance to the journal scope, and significance for contemporary educational discourse.

Reviewers provide constructive comments and detailed recommendations intended to improve the academic quality and scholarly contribution of the manuscript.

Reviewer Recommendations
  • Accept without revision
  • Accept with minor revisions
  • Accept with major revisions
  • Reject

4. Editorial Decision

The final editorial decision is determined by the Editor-in-Chief based on reviewer recommendations, manuscript quality, academic contribution, and compliance with publication standards.

In cases where reviewer recommendations differ significantly, the editorial board may assign additional reviewers for further evaluation. Authors are notified of the editorial decision together with anonymous reviewer comments and revision suggestions.

5. Revision and Resubmission

Authors whose manuscripts require revision must revise and resubmit their manuscripts within the specified timeframe. Revised submissions should include a detailed response letter addressing all reviewer comments and indicating changes made in the manuscript.

Manuscripts requiring major revisions may be returned to the original reviewers for re-evaluation to ensure that all academic concerns and recommendations have been adequately addressed.

6. Final Editing and Publication

Manuscripts accepted for publication proceed to copyediting, proofreading, layout editing, reference verification, and final formatting before publication.

The publication schedule of accepted articles is determined by the Editor-in-Chief based on editorial readiness, thematic relevance, and publication planning.

Through this rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review Process, Journal of Schooling and Pesantren Studies (JSPS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, publication ethics, scholarly integrity, and internationally recognized educational research.
